Questions before your next study session
What is Study at Café?
Study at Café is an online study café that runs in a web browser. You choose an avatar and a virtual space, set a focus timer, and study alone or alongside other participants. Café music and ambient sounds are available.
Is Study at Café free to use?
Basic entry to the study space is free. Some dedicated rooms have group or ranking access rules. Optional external services can have their own requirements; controlling playback through Spotify requires Spotify Premium.
Do I need an account to start studying?
You can enter as a guest. Signing in with Google or Kakao connects your study history to your account and enables member features such as private diary notes and stamps. Use the same sign-in account when returning on another device.
Do I have to turn on my camera?
No. The main study room uses avatars and does not require a camera. Group voice and video calls are separate, optional features that request browser permissions when used.
How do the focus timer and breaks work?
Choose a study duration in the study settings, then start or pause the timer in the room. The timer supports sessions up to 240 minutes. When a session finishes, you can choose a break, extend the session within the limit, or finish studying. For example, you can choose 25 minutes of focus and then a short break.
Can I save my study records as an image or PDF?
Yes. Open the study calendar from your profile, choose a month or a day, and prepare a PNG image or PDF. PNG gives a visual summary; PDF includes longer goals and notes. Signed-in members can add private diary notes, stamps and a monthly colour theme.
Which time zone does the study calendar use?
Dates and times follow your date-and-time preferences, with device settings used for automatic defaults. You can review these preferences in your profile. Changing the interface language does not force your records into Korean or Melbourne time.
Can I use Study at Café on my phone or add it as an app?
Yes. Use a mobile browser, then select Add to home screen from the entrance or your profile’s account options. Supported browsers can install it as a web app. Live participation and saving study records require an internet connection.
Does every avatar represent a person online?
No. Study spaces can contain both participants and virtual characters. The displayed online-character and recorded-time totals include virtual characters, so they should not be read as the number of people studying at that moment.
